The nervous system is one of the most critical systems in the human body, relaying impulses, sensory information, sensations such as touch and pain, and the signals needed to control and regulate muscles, organs, and all the other systems that make up your body. The nervous system is your body's internal 'information superhighway' which allows your brain and body to function as a harmonious whole. And a critical part of this superhighway begins with your spine, which is why spinal health is critical to your overall health.

One of the largest, most critical parts of your nervous system is your spinal cord, which runs through your spinal column from the base of your skull to the lower back. Special bundles of nerves -- known as branch nerves -- exit the spine along various points along the length of the spine and branch off into smaller nerves that extend throughout the body. Damage or interference with the functioning of these nerves can cause a wide range of health issues, ranging from pain and numbness to loss of function.

Good spinal health is critical to proper nervous system function, and regular chiropractic care can help.

One of the most common causes of nerve damage or irritation is a spinal condition known as subluxation. Subluxation occurs when one or more of the vertebrae which make up the spine become misaligned with adjoining vertebrae.

Common symptoms of a subluxation include pain, numbness, and headache. Nerve interference due to subluxation can also cause a variety of other symptoms such as allergies, fatigue, and sinus issues, among others, due to accumulative effect of decreased nervous system function.

Chiropractic therapy to bring these vertebrae back into alignment can effectively relieve all of these symptoms through gentle spinal realignment.

At Lexington Family Chiropractic, we can provide chiropractic care for your entire family, from youngest to oldest.
