Often people only think of chiropractic care under acute circumstances, when some portion of their spine is misaligned and they are seeking relief for their pain. While it is true that sometimes chiropractors can perform a single adjustment that will provide pain relief, it does not necessarily correct the underlying issues that caused the pain in the first place.

With regular chiropractic maintenance care, your chiropractor can check your spine and note any issues with weak and/or tense muscles that might be the cause of any misalignments. He or she can suggest exercises to help you stretch and strengthen your muscles so they are less likely to pull your spine out of alignment in the future. They can also provide guidance on how best to avoid repetitive injuries while on the job or during recreational activities. In addition, by taking a set of X-rays, typically once a year, chiropractors can note any subtle changes throughout your spine and modify their treatments accordingly.

In short, seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis is much like scheduling regular dental checkups with your dentist. Most people understand the principle that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Much like those who put off going to the dentist, those who put off going to their chiropractor when a minor issue crops up, often turned a relatively minor problem into a much larger one. Don't run the risk of allowing your minor pain turn into a bigger "headache" down the road.
